Objective

A major energy project in South Australia required surge protection at the DC Bus Marshalling connection points across the site’s solar field. The system needed to meet site-specific requirements including pad-lockable enclosures, protective covers, and glanding suited to multiple incoming field cables. With 26 units required on a tight schedule, fast engineering approval was critical to avoid project delays.

Solution

Leveltec’s technical team engaged with the client early in the planning stage to map out the functional requirements. What started as a request for a basic SPD solution quickly evolved into a fully assembled, turnkey Solar DC Marshalling panel featuring CITEL surge protection and custom-configured bus bars.

Designed with ease of installation in mind, the enclosures were delivered to site ready to mount—complete with pre-drilled rails and gland holes, saving valuable time on site. Each unit was engineered to align perfectly with the site’s field cable layout, ensuring consistency across all installations.

  • Enclosure: IP66 UV-rated glass-reinforced polyester, rated for 25+ years of direct sun exposure
  • Surge Protection: CITEL DS50PVS-1500/51 Type 2 SPD for solar PV
    – In: 15kA / Imax: 40kA
    – Pluggable with optional remote signalling
  • Terminations:
    – 4 x Glands for parallel DC BUS (+ and –)
    – 1 x Gland for earth cable
    – Pre-drilled bus bars, fitted and spaced for field connections
  • Additional Features:
    – Earth bar for SPD and field earth connection
    – Pressure compensation valve
    – Internal shield cover and warning labels
    – Custom mounting brackets (horizontal/vertical 40mm strut)
    – Supplied with as-built drawings, spare parts list, and FAT test report
